Happy birthday to you! February 18, 2007Hannibal Rising: The Saskatoon Connection!Posted by Sarah at 2:33 PM on February 18, 2007.
If you didn’t believe before that the Universe is uniquely connected to Saskatoon or at least Saskatchewan, believe it now. The latest evidence was found in the newest chapter of the Hannibal Lecter series and Hollywood blockbuster, Hannibal Rising. Not only did this movie aim to educate viewers about the history of Hannibal becoming a cannibal and developing his savory appetite for human cheek-kabobs, it showed us a Hannibal growing up in his country of Lithuania. Young (and relatively un-evil) Hannibal survives the horrors of WWII… almost, but I won’t say another word or I will spoil the plot! Hannibal escapes to France to start his venture into evil geniusnousness and lives with Lady Murasaki Shikibu, his aunt-in-law. The memories of his childhood war experience continue to haunt Hannibal during his medical school years in France and he becomes obsessed with finding the predators that forever made him into the monster he is today. Now for the Saskatoon/SK connection (and still without giving too much away)… one of the men that Hannibal is seeking lives in Canada. While torturing another target on his hit list, Hannibal managed to threaten out the location of the man’s accomplice. To which the man replies “he lives in a small village… near SASKATOON” <this is where the theatre outbursts in laughter and disbelief, as probably did not happen in non-Saskatchewan-based theatres>. At the end of the movie, it shows Hannibal driving into the “Hamlet of Melville” which may or may not be historically accurate (not sure if Melville was a Hamlet in the 1950’s). However, they did indeed portray Saskatchewan’s roads quite historically accurate as his car rumbles over bumpy, narrow and shoulder-less pavement. Cool, eh? I once won a bratwurst eating contest and noone can ever take that away from me. Fine. If you want to make the treadmill session into a race – it’s on. However, I am always surprised when an old flabby man thinks he can beat me treadmill-style. I won the school cookbook naming contest when I was 14. Eating with Eaton. I was a marketing genius even then. I used to have a thing with a certain soya sauce that shall remain nameless. I do not have such a thing anymore. I might have turned the 5 second rule into a 30 second rule on more than one occasion. There is nothing wrong with being able to eat more crab than two grown men put together, followed by a large Starbucks blended frappucino. I think having to make an appointment to “register” for wedding gifts is a ridiculous notion. Apparently driving 300 consumers to your store to purchase items from your store doesn’t warrant increasing your stock of scanning guns. I think men who wear too much Axe are gross. Most girls I know think Axe smells disgusting, therefore having an opposite reaction to the much desired Axe-effect. There is no point to picking up dog poop in winter. The snowshovel man takes it away anyway. Yes, it’s cold here. It’s really cold. We know. Yes, we’re used to it. Yep. Glad we got that straightened out. Well I guess for those who don't know me I should let you in on who I am. I am Cory. I have known Paulie for quite a while now. And since we both ended up back in Saskatoon started hanging out again. I lived in Vancouver for 3 years. Well the lower mainland. But its all really Vancouver. It drove me nuts. All the driving and well I had about a 4-6 hours worth of driving to get to and from work due to the over inflated housing market there. Yes I am taken (Married). I am old or at least told that by kids. Wow I guess kids are now age < 24. LOL. No I don't have kids. I am a gamer at heart. Not a writer. I love football, WoW, BF 2142, Cars and Beer. Paulie seems to think I have things to say that people would like to read. So I am going to Blog about what ever is crossing my mind. So there. If you don't like it too bad :) I am working as a Valuation Consultant. Ya its a big complicated title that no one including me really understands. But I am an appraiser. I look at buildings and equipment and find out how much it is worth. The thing I like about my work is that it takes me all over the place. I have beent to places that most will never see ... LOL ... or maybe want to. One of the first topics that I am going to write about is a look at the Car buying experiance (yes I just bought a Car) and to a little review on what I did purchase and well as what we looked at. Also, yes you won't believe this but, Fat Paulie and I are going down the path to not be Fat. And we are going to put it the whole thing on here so you can all make sure that we follow through. Stay posted to get the weigh in and measurements to mark the start. Thats it for now. C
