*Sigh* Has it migrated to Canada yet? And #2, where the heck has paulie been on this one. I mean it came out at least 2 months ago and no paulie apple-jingle-jangle-isms? I dreamt once of the perfect phone and it did not exist. Then one day, I bought another phone. Now the perfect phone is alive and I hate the other phone - but it is not it's fault. ![]() My TV Series IdeaPosted by Paulie at 3:31 PM on March 6, 2007.
I'll post it here, because I'm not really as concerned with ME getting it made, as I am with the series just being made period. I'm pretty sure I had this idea back in Tokyo, and likely mentioned it to Joe (Joe, you out there? Can you confirm?). Anyway, I was yapping with Craiggers at work today, and somehow it just all came back to my brain. I think the idea for the series is born out of a love of Magnum PI. That show just rocked when I was a kid, and there was nothing cooler than having a Ferrari and being in Hawaii. It seemed so out there. So, the idea is to have a show, very much in the same milieu (ooh, fancy french word) of Magnum. In fact, have it actually reference Magnum within the show. The lead would be an early-30's male named (for lack of anything better right now) Colt. If not Colt, then some other gun-like name (much as Magnum was). He should be cool like Magnum was. Maybe like a younger, less hippie Matthew McConaughey. Instead of Hawaii, we switch locales to Hong Kong. Hong Kong offers a variety of landscapes from city, to forest, to beach, and is in close range of Macau and other Asian destinations. The history of the Hong Kong action movie would be witnessed in the series, and due to the low cost of production, you could have an action-packed hour at far less than normal studio rates. So Colt is on the island, maybe ex-military like Magnum (Gulf War or GW2 vet?), and working as security on the compound for a somewhat shady, never-seen corporate magnate. The compound administrator would be a stuffy British man, or possibly a stuffy Hong Kong native with British English. Colt insists on calling him Higgins, again referencing the link to Magnum PI. Without becoming a total re-hash of the original show, the series needs to have an on-going season-long arc regarding a head criminal (the big bad) that will re-occur. In the meantime, Colt helps ex-pats, locals, and the occasional Filipina housekeeper. He'd have an on-again, off-again love affair with a local girl, and various friends and business contacts in the Hong Kong underworld. So that's the rough outline. What else could be added/changed so that the series is fun to watch, with a serial element, and pays homage to Magnum without being a complete reboot of that show? March 2, 2007Posting for spite - lack of updates!Posted by Dan at 3:35 PM on March 2, 2007.
With no postings in a week, I thought it was time for me to make my first one, and do a shameless plug of my own website. Its my blog, music portfolio, and misc rantings much like this site is for Paul. Enjoy!
